A national conference on health was held in Beijing from Oct. 12 to 13. Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), attended the conference and delivered an important speech. He stressed that the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030) is crucial to achieving the goal of building a Healthy China by 2035. China must remain firmly committed to the path of health development with Chinese characteristics and implement guidelines for the health work in the new era. The country should build on its strengths, consolidate foundations, address shortcomings and shore up weak links to promote high-quality development of the health system, continuously improve the health of the people and ensure decisive progress in advancing the Healthy China Initiative.
